In this selection of the book that Grace Lin reads it talks about the story of the Old Man of the Moon. In this story the ruler believes he is so powerful that every time some one sees him, they will kneel in his presents. Then one night, a man did not kneel for him. This made him angry, so he stomped over to the old man and asked why he wasn't knelling and instead reading a stupid book. The old man was upset by this comment, and told the ruler this was the book of fortune and it could predict the future. The ruler then asked the old man who his son would marry. The old man looked into the book then said, " A grocer in the next town over. She is wrapped in a blue blanket." This made the ruler even more angry. Sure enough, in the next town the ruler saw a little girl of a grocer laying in a blue blanket. This made the old mans prediction right, but the old man was never seen again!

I can't believe this story is compared to a Chinese Wizard of Oz. This makes me wonder if the author, Grace Lin, got some of her ideas from the actual movie.
