Wow! I didn't know that the Valentine's Day had a history behind it. It is really sad how this man gave up his whole life and made us people happy which became a tradition. First, I wanted to say that the emperor was really nasty and I disagree with the law that says that soldiers cant marry. How cruel is that! Then, one of their leaders was a Bishop called Valentine who decided to let soldiers get married in his church. This makes soldiers happy and other people. To sum it up, I think that Valentine was very kind and loving and to remember his day or to remember this loving gift, people still go around giving each other kind stuff.

Wow! That emperor was mean! He really had no heart! Who wouldn’t want people to get married!? And what is even cooler is the fact that when Valentine’s hands touched the girl’s eyes, she could see! I don’t know if this is entirely true, but if it is, that is amazing! I guess that really shows the power of love! I don’t really understand why he was executed. I understand he broke the law so he would have to get punish, but it was a silly law to begin with.

Wow, I knew Valentines day was named after a saint, but I never knew the real story behind it. It is super cool he would rather be executed then worship them. This story is so fascinating!

I think it is really weird how the Rome emperor didn’t let people married. St. Valentine was doing a good thing to people but got a consequence kind of like when Rosa parks didn’t give up her seat but instead st. Valentine got executed. At the end before he was about to die he said to someone from your valentine and it was a card for love for her.

I did not know their was a person named Valentine. It is crazy that valentine day has history behind it. It was weird how the Rome Emperor didn't let people marry each other. Then it became a law which is really dumb. The bishop told Valentine that soldiers will be able to marry each other and make other people happy. In conclusion, Valentine was very loving and kind to other people.

I think it is unbelievable someone would be so cruel to ban people from getting married. But, when there is darkness there is always light to fight it. Saint Valentine was amazing to have the courage to do something against the law for the greater good. At the end it cost him his life but I think he did the right thing. He will always be remembered and celebrated on February 14 and I think he 100% deserves it. I think it is crazy that there is actually a history behind it. I always thought that someone just made this up but it is fascinating to know about the history. It makes me wonder if there is a holiday just like this with an unknown history. Although this wasn't a happily ever after, his story will resonate in our hearts forever.

It's crazy to think that two people who loved each other's stories were so well known and cool that it became a national holiday! It's also amazing how St. Valentine faced execution for his beliefs/what is right. It's also weird how somebody didn't want people to get married, and that person even went as far as to execute somebody who stood up against him for love. St. Valentine must've been really brave, willing to get executed in the name of what is right.

Woah! That emperor was cruel, I mean, taking away decent rights? It is simply amazing that the man touched her eyes and she got her sight back. This is probably the twisted truth about Valentines Day, but it is amazing that it has a meaning, I thought it was some dumb holiday, a person made up to express their love to their significant other on a special day! The reason of his execution was simply foolish, yes he did break a rule, but that rule was stupid in the first place. If Valentine wasn't executed however, we may not have this powerful holiday today, even though someone had to pass away to make it happen. Poor girl though, as soon as she loves someone he dies, and not to mention the person who gave her sight back?! I'd be fairly upset. I mean, I mean everything happens for a cause right? This cause, was our special holiday, where people can be themselves and confess, or express feelings to another, Valentines Day!

I never knew that Valentines Day was named by a person. The Rome Emperor did not let people marry each other because of war. I can't believe that two people loved each other and they were well known and they are the reason we have this celebration today.

I never knew there was a history behind Valentine's day until I saw this video. The emperor was really mean. People should've been allowed to get married. I'm glad now that the rules have changed!

The video was unavailable, but I learned about this in 4th grade in Baltimore. If I can recall correctly, he was arrested for helping soldiers get married, and while he was in prison, he fell in love with a girl who was blind. I’m not 100% sure is she was blind or not, but I think there was someone was blind. Saint Valentine used to write love letters to his lover, and he signed them Your Valentine. February 14 was chosen as Valentine’s Day because that was the day Valentine was executed. There is a story that his lover was blind and Saint Valentine touched her eyes and gave her the ability to see, but I’m not sure this is true.
