In my opinion, I think we should celebrate Indigenous Peoples day, because I think Columbus isn't a very good person based on what he did. He said he found America, after stumbling upon it when many people were already living there. Many of those innocent people died, all because of Columbus. He forced religion on all of those people, who did nothing wrong, and if they did something "wrong" (according to his standards) they were beat, and sometimes killed. Columbus made all those innocent people's lives miserable, and what he did, is against todays Constitution. He made them his slaves, and he forced religion on them. Why would we want to celebrate somebody who by today's standards would be a criminal? He also did many wrong things, and ended up lying about it. Yes, Columbus did inspire many others to explore as well, which led to other real discoveries, but I don't think that justifies Columbus's actions. I think that we should not celebrate Columbus, because of all of his terrible actions, and we should honor and remember all that were killed and sometimes tortured because of Colombus.
