Indigenous people day because Columbus didn't really do anything except for murdering and forcing people to be catholic. We are basically celebrating a murderer. I know that he inspired people to be brave and stuff, but i just wish he wouldn't have gotten so brutal to them.

There has been a lot of debate on whether or not we should celebrate Columbus day. I believe that we should celebrate Columbus day. I know that the majority of the people think we should celebrate indigenous peoples day and I agree and disagree at the same time. I think we should celebrate indigenous but not on Columbus Day. The other thing is that when we celebrate Columbus day we aren't celebrating how good of a person he was because he was a horrible person but we are celebrating what he did. When I say we are celebrating what he did I mean that we are celebrating what he did to torch a blazing path to the modern world. Today I heard a few people say that if Columbus hadn't come along what happens will be the same but at different times. I don't exactly believe that. Recently I watched the movie Back to the Future and one simple action in the past can change the reality in the future. Yes, it is a movie but an action in the past can really effect what you do in the future. Those are all the reasons that I think we should celebrate Columbus day. I know that it might not be enough to convince some very passionate people so I have come up with a compromise. I think that we should have two separate days one for Columbus day and one for indigenous peoples day and both holidays are optional. Those are my thoughts on Columbus Day.

I think we should celebrate indigenous peoples day because Columbus killed many native Americans and that has caused there population to go down. We all know that the native Americans were there first which is also why i think we shouldn't celebrate Columbus day if he didn't really "discover" America. We could say he explored America but did not discover it. Another reason why i think we should not celebrate Columbus day is because Columbus forced native Americans to turn catholic while America is a country of freedom where you are independent and the only person that can control you is you. Those are some of many reasons why I think we should celebrate indigenous peoples day instead of Columbus day.

There has been a lot of conflict on whether or not we want to celebrate Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples' day. I think we should celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day. I see where people are coming from, saying that we should not celebrate Columbus for how good of a person he was but what he did. What did he really do though? Someone surely would have found America. He didn't really even land in the actually country! He was in a island below Florida, which is apart of the land that we own, but wasn't in the country fully. It would set us back a few years, but maybe someone would do it better? Better then Columbus did, and you are right, diseases went both ways, but if Columbus didn't come their wouldn't be another root for the diseases to spread to. It is upsetting how there are schools, small towns, and other signs of worship against someone who cut of generations and brutally FORCED religion amongst people who were on a land first. Imagine, you being a Jew or Islam or Hindu or Buddhism or any type of religion you support. Imagine being on a land that you've been on for months or years and being forced of your land and sold. Like, wow, your life downgraded far! If you were a Taino, and every year you have to hear the name that cut of your culture, your ancestors, your generation, your species. That is what Columbus did. Columbus didn't find anything, and he forced people people to worship things they didn't, and they sold the Taino like pop-its these days! Yes, Columbus had a huge impact on our country, but how do we know it is a good impact, that someone else couldn't do it without murdering thousands of living people, born with the same brain Columbus had and the same heart every human being did. Killing people was never normal, people had brains, and it is simply immoral to murder people, doesn't matter if it was normal or not. "They welcomed me with open arms." Open arms that they used to welcome you, but the arms that you used to ruin there lives and direct them to a place that they didn't want to be. I will never celebrate someone who killed so much, by the tone of his voice, his actions and his words.

I think we should continue to celebrate Columbus Day. WE should continue to celebrate Columbus day because we are not celebrating what he did when he got here, we are celebrating his discovery and inspiration for others.

I think that we should celebrate Indigenes People's day because Columbus did a lot of bad things that I feel we can NOT ignore. I think we should still be educated about Christopher Columbus, but Columbus day shouldn't be a national holiday. This is my opinion on Columbus/Indigenes People's Day.

This is a very controversial holiday if we think about it but I think it should be indigenous people day. Some people say that we should celebrate Columbus Day but I disagree. I think we should celebrate indigenous people day because even though he did do good things he still caused death. We are celebrating the good things he did but we can’t just leave out all of the brutal deaths he caused. Columbus and other Europeans brought diseases that made the Taino population decrease by a lot. Also Columbus just kept them as slaves and most of them died. That’s why I think we should celebrate indigenous people day.

I think we should celebrate Indigenous People's day because Columbus did a lot of bad things that us humans could not ignore. Columbus killed native tribes, arrested them, and forced them to leave the land. He also brought diseases that killed people. That is what Columbus did. Columbus didn't find anything, and he forced people people to worship things they didn't, and they sold the Tainos. Since born with the same brain Columbus had and the same heart every human being did. Killing people was never normal, people had brains, and it is simply not a choice. We could say he explored America but did not discover it. If we celebrate Columbus Day we are basically celebrating a murderer who killed most people.

All I have to say is the guy in the video had a point we can compromise and celebrate on another day as long as they are both compromise, I believe that we shouldn't celebrate Columbus but I can compromise. Though I strongly believe that we shouldn't celebrate a murderer. Image that someone killed your family then someone else was like 'Good job murdering someone, you where great at it, tell you what let give you a holiday' Then you have to hear there name for the rest of your life. Well that's what someone did for Columbus.

In my opinion, I think we should celebrate Indigenous People's day, because Columbus did many wrong things when he claimed he 'found' America, he said he found it when people already lived there, but he also made them work for him, making them his slaves. He also forced religion on them, which I think is against the Constitution. Many innocent people lost their lives because of Columbus, and then he was seen as the good guy after lying. Why would we want to celebrate someone who today, would be seen as a criminal? He did inspire others, which led to other discoveries, but that doesn't justify what he did. He killed many innocent people, and forced religion on people. He hurt people for no reason, and he lied about a lot of things as well.

I think we should support indigenous people day because back when we did this people said it wasn’t about the bad things he did because he “found America” even though he wasn’t even the first one there but you can’t just ignore all those people that died because of him would you really want to honor someone who did things like that. He even forced religion among people he didn’t let them live how they wanted to which was not fair at all. That’s why I think we should celebrate indigenous people day.

I think that we should definitely celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day instead of Columbus Day, because what Columbus did "discover" a place, kill many people, lie about it, and the come out looking the good guy. Columbus stumbled upon a place where people lived, made those people his slaves, tortured AND killed many of them for no reason, and then lied about it to everyone and was seen as the good person in the situation. He found many people that lived there, that were nothing but kind and generous to him and his crew, yet Columbus still proceeded to enslave all of them, and force religion onto them which is actually against today's Constitution. Why would we want to celebrate and honor someone who today, would be a criminal? Columbus lied about discovering America, killed, enslaved, and tortured those who already lived there, forced religion on them lied about it all, and was the hero. THAT is why I think that we absolutely should NOT celebrate Columbus day because of the disgusting things he did to innocent people, and that we should honor and remember those who lost their lives, their family members, their friends, and their FREEDOM all at the hands of Christopher Columbus.
