I learned that the great garbage patch is 10 times as big as texas and the two patches are in the middle of the subtropical convergence zone.

I learned that there is a huge garbage patch floating in the ocean. the rotation of the Earth forms gyres and the garbage patch is in the north pacific gyre. There are some beaches that have trash piled 10 feet deep that is coming from the garbage patch. That's gross! 80% of the trash is plastic. that is because plastic takes very long to break down. About 500 years. That's a long time! the parts of plastic in the ocean are called nurdles. They contain the chemicals that are used to make the plastic and they attract other pollution in the oceans. that's not good. then the nerdles are eaten by aquatic life and then we eat the animal and that is not good. Something that we can do to help is we can reduce the amount of plastic that we use.
