The main idea/central idea of the text is really all about wind turbines. I know this because the article starts by describing their features. For example, the text says "Most HAWTs are painted white to help make them visible to low-flying aircraft. They stand about 200 to 300 feet tall, and the blades rotate at 10 to 20 rotations a minute." It then goes on to say, "Vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWTs) have varied, unusually shaped blades that rotate in complete circles around a tower. The main rotor and generator are located near the ground. VAWTs do not have to face the wind to generate electricity. Vertical-axis wind turbines can be much smaller than their horizontal counterparts. They are often installed on the roofs of buildings."

The enormous, stiff blades on a HAWT usually face the wind. A wind vane or wind sensor determines which way the wind is blowing, and turns the turbine to face the oncoming wind. The central idea of the article "Generating energy from the wind" is that wind farms are a good source. I believe wind farms are good because they are very simple and they help you do get or do things you need. A wind mill can be connected to pipes the are connected to a stream. When the wind blows, the wind mill goes! This channels the pipe to run and the water to come. Wind mills are great inventions!

Today, wind is making a comeback as a source of electricity and power. I know this because it gives many examples of how we can use wind instead of oil for power. It says how the wind turbine works and what wind farms are. It also shows the evolution of energy. I know this because I saw the headings and I knew what the paragraphs would be about. It says, "Wind Farms and Windmills And The Evolution Of Wind Energy." I know that headings are what the paragraphs will be talking about.

I think the main idea of the story is wind turbines are very useful because they generate electricity without using fossil fuels. However, wind turbines cost a lot of money so although it may be more helpful it may not be the cheapest way. Wind turbines also help with the fact that wind can never be used up so we can constantly get electricity. Fossil fuels can be used up. I think wind farms are a good idea because then you have a lot of wind turbines producing electricity for many people. It helps so many people with their everyday lives.

This article is about how wind turbines produce "safe" electricity. What i mean by safe is for the environment. Energy is produced with wind turbines — tall, tubular towers with blades rotating at the top. When the wind turns the blades, the blades turn a generator and create electricity. Wind turbines do have their limits. For instance turbines cannot operate at every wind speed. If winds are too strong, they can be damaged. Therefore, the turbine has an automatic controller that turns on when winds are blowing at ideal speeds for generating electricity. This speed is usually 8 to 55 miles per hour. If the winds become stronger than that, the controller turns the turbine off. Wind farms are large groups of wind turbines.Wind farms are often located in agricultural areas, where the land between the turbines can still be used for farming. Grazing animals are unaffected by the large, slow-moving turbines. In the United States, the "Corn Belt" overlaps with the "Wind Belt," an area across the Midwest that is ideal for harvesting crops and wind. Wind turbines tower over farmland in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. It is a good idea because it is eco-friendly and helps the envioument yet still gives us energy.

(1). The central idea of the article is that wind turbines are important, and people should not be replacing them with limited important natural resources that have almost the same amount of energy in outcome.

Wind has been used as a source of energy for thousands of years but was replaced by coal, gas and oil for much of the 20th century.Today, wind is making a comeback as a source of electricity and power. When the wind turns the blades, the blades turn a generator and create electricity. Horizontal-axis wind turbines (HAWTs) are the most familiar type of electricity producing windmill.

I believe the central idea of this article, is that wind energy is making a comback with the advantages it provides, but there are definetly obstacles in their return.

i think the central idea is that we can and are bringing back wind energy. I know this because in the text it says, "Today, there are wind farms in many parts of the world. The largest one in the United States is the Alta Wind Energy Center in Kern County, California. It has more than 300 turbines." this proves that we are using wind turbines because if we have a giant on we are obviously using them. also in the text is says, "Wind farms are often located on farmland. In the United States, they are found especially on farmland in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas." this proves we are using them because if we can find them in so many states we must be using them a lot. I personally think this is good because we can stop using fossil fuels and pollute the air.

Wind turbines are a good solution for fossil fuEls, but they can also haVe problems. Wind is A reNewable resource. But, places where wind turbines are useful are usually remote. Wind turbines are useful, but there are to many cons.

I think it is a good resource because the mills don't pollute the air. One bad thing though is they only work if the wind is between 5 and 50 miles per hour. One last thing is they don't produce alot of energy so it cannot be a main source of energy. It is still a really good source because it is renewable.

I think wind farms are good. They produce alot of energy and they do not create pollution. It is also very cheap. Even though they sometimes kill birds, It probaly rarely happens and they should keep there eyes on the sky! Wind farms do need alot of space but we are one of the biggest planets in the solar system. We will have plenty of room after we get rid of those oil rigs and natural gas pumps. Off shore wind farms might damage coral reefs but they are powering our planet at the same time! And residents that complain they make too much noise... WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE A COAL AND OIL POWER PLANT MAKING EVEN MORE NOISE AND MORE POLLUTION!!! Yeah i thought so. ZACH OUT!

The central idea of the artical is that wind trbians can be good or bad. I know this because in the artical it says"There are many advantages to using the winds energy to create electricity." But it also says "There are also many challenges in using wind energy." This proves that the auther does beileve that there are many advantages to using wind energy, but she is not blind to the flaws of using wind energy. I beileve that wind energy can be good or bad because of the cheapness of the energy but also that it can kill bats or birds.

the main idea of the article is how good of an energy source. I know this because in the article says "Wind has been used as a good source of energy for thousands of years." this proves that the author thinks it is good.

1.) I think the main idea of this article is wind turbines are great ways to get electricity, but they have some disadvantages as well. The reason I think this is because the article says,"Wind occurs naturally and cannot be used up. Wind is a clean source of energy. Turbines have no emissions and do not pollute the air. Wind energy is cheap! In the United States, it costs between 4 cents and 6 cents per kilowatt-hour. Wind is generated all over the planet, and wind turbines can be installed economically almost everywhere." Also, it states, "Even though wind energy is cheap, the initial cost to build a wind farm is quite high. Wind farms require acres of land and must compete with other uses. When planning a wind farm in a hilly area, where winds are steady and strong, trees might need to be cut. This likely destroys habitats of dozens of species. Wind turbines can kill bats and birds. Offshore wind farms might damage the marine ecosystem. The seafloor must be disturbed and drilled to install a wind turbine. Some residents who live near wind farms complain about the noise or appearance of the machinery. Locations that produce great amounts of wind energy are often in remote areas, far away from the cities and people who could use it. Transmission lines have to be built to transfer the electricity to the cities. The biggest problem with wind energy is, of course, the wind itself. When the wind is not blowing, electricity cannot be generated." Sorry the evidence is so long!

I believe that the central idea of the artical is wind is a better way to produce energy rather than using fossel fules, even though using wind comes with challenges. I know this because in the text it says, "Wind is generated all over the planet and wind turbines can be instaled economically almost everywhere. This makes it a key resource in developing economies. Nuclear energy, for instance, demands a workforce with substantial educational and engineering backgrounds, as well as an initial investment for nuclear power plants." it also says, "Wind farms are often located in agricultural areas, where the land between the turbines can still be used for farming. Grazing animals are unaffected by the large, slow-moving turbines. In the United States, the 'Corn Belt' overlaps with the 'Wind Belt,' an area across the Midwest that is ideal for harvesting crops and wind. Wind turbines tower over acres of corn, soy and alfalfa in the states of Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. Some scientists suggest wind turbines may even improve the flow of carbon dioxide to surrounding crops." i chose these two peices of text eveidence because they both state that using wind to create energy is good for the planet. This is why i believe that using wind to create energy is a good idea.

The central idea of this artical is to explain to people what wind turnbinds are, why they are good, and how they work. In the text it says "Vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWTs) have blades that rotate in complete circles around their tower." This peice of evidence explains what the blades are and what they do, which goes along with what the central idea is. "When the wind turns the blades, the blades turn a generator and create electricity. This text evidence is explaining how they work, which also relates to the central idea.

In the artical "generating energy from the wind" the central idea is how they are helpful and it also examples to people what wind turbines and windmills are I know this because in the artical it says " wind has been used as a source of energy for thousands of years. For much of the 20th century, however, it was replaced by coal, gas and oil. Today, though, wind is making a comeback as a source of electricity and power" I know this connects to the central idea because it shows how they are starting to make it better and how it helps us in the way that we live.
