Frederick Douglass was a leader. He was considered a leader because back then slaves were not allowed to read. But he still learn to read even though it might've cost him a beating. This proves that he was a leader because he was courageous for what he did. Only a courageous person would learn to read even but he still learn to read even though it might've cost him a beating. This proves that he was a leader because he was courageous for what he did. Oh me a courageous person would learn to read even though it was illegal.

I have done further research and found that inside he really wanted to fight back, but he was scared to receive more beatings. Then someone helped him and he was not afraid anymore. What a brave man you didn't give up even though he had a hard life. I find this amazing that these people had to go through all of that just because they had a different color skin.

Fredrick experienced slavery, so he knew how harsh it really was. That made him able to be outspoken about what he went through when he escaped to freedom. He moved a lot and spoke about slavery and how harsh it really was. He spoke so well, that he earned respect to even the president. The president listened to him when Fredrick suggested more weapons for African Americans for the war. People saw how the president listened to Fredrick and respected African americans more when he spoke.

When the white people found out Fredrick got beat . Fredrick taught other slaves how to read. Then he escaped from slavery and found other people that were against slavery also.

I think Frederick Douglas was considered a leader because he didn't just move on with his life when he escaped. He decided he wanted to do more so he fought for rights even after he was safe and free. I wonder if maybe Harriet Tubman helped him escape?
