I though this article was really interesting that this fossil was found in 1966 is now on display. I though it was so cool that these creatures were in the ocean swimming 170 MILLION years ago and they only found it in 1966. I learned that there was not a lot of scientists back in 1966 so they could not open it safely.

I can't believe that the Ichthyosaur, common name "Storr Losh Monster" is the oldest under water reptile ever found in Scotland. Also, it was found in 1966 on the Isle of Skye, and once the scientists found the it, they knew it was clearly a special fossil. This dolphin-like creature ruled the seas about 170 years ago. Fifty years after it was discovered they finally revealed the fossil to the public in The National Museum Scotland. When the Scientists discovered the fossil, it was stuck in a hard stone and he/she couldn't get the fossil out safely, so they brought it to the museum fully preserved in the stone. Now it’s bones have been lovingly persevered and cared for in the museum on a museum shelf for many years.
